Frequently Asked Questions

How do we select the restaurants and vineyards featured in Savvy Diner?

We survey the concierge staff of the top hotels in the cities we cover, for their top restaurant recommendations. The professional concierge is sending guests to restaurants on a daily basis and are the best source of accurate, up-to-date, information about quality restaurants. We also take into consideration the local and national food critics' comments and reviews. We also appreciate hearing from you, the Savvy Diner user. Your suggestions and feedback are important to us.

Why should I use Savvy Diner's reservation system?

Our reservation system is designed for use by travelers. You can book your reservations in advance of arriving in the city, which affords you a higher probability of getting a reservation at that popular restaurant. In some cases, restaurants set aside tables for us or provide preferred seating. We provide you with restaurant or vineyard information similar to that which you would receive from the concierge staff at upscale hotels.

Are my restaurant reservations guaranteed?

Yes, but some of the more popular restaurants will only hold your reservation for 15 minutes. If you are running late, be sure to call the restaurant and inform them of your situation. It is always a good idea to confirm with the restaurant by phone on the day of your reservation.

Why does Savvy Diner require 24 hours notice for making reservations?

To insure accuracy and success, our reservation center needs this time to deal with the various time zones and to be sure that they can contact the proper staff at the restaurant or vineyard. We are usually able to make reservations on shorter notice, but our success ratio can fall off.

Why does Savvy Diner require my e-mail address, as well as my phone # or name of hotel where I will be staying, when making a reservation request?

Almost always, the restaurant requires your phone # or name of hotel where you will be staying. We need your e-mail address or fax # to send you back your reservation confirmation. We never sell your information to anyone!

How current is the information on Savvy Diner?

We attempt to keep the information as fresh and accurate as is possible. The menus are samples only, actual menus may vary. We fax each restaurant every 90 days requesting their current menu, as well as any changes in hours of operation, etc. However, restaurants don't always respond on a timely basis. If you note any big disparity with our information, please e-mail us and we will contact the restaurant in question. If you note any big disparity with our information, please e-mail us and we will contact the restaurant in question.

Why doesn't Savvy Diner list hundreds of restaurants in each city featured?

First and foremost, we only list very good and/or very popular restaurants. Places that travelers actually want to visit. We also look at how close the restaurants are to the travel centers of the city. (Is it close to the major hotels, convention centers, major business and visitor attractions?) We will eventually expand our circle of coverage in each city, but for the present, we are focused on adding more cities to Savvy Diner. If we are missing your favorite restaurant, please nominate it and give us your reason for doing so.

Can I book large groups or banquet functions through Savvy Diner?

Yes. When we receive a group request, our reservation center contacts the banquet manager or general manager of the restaurant. The restaurant then contacts you directly. It is important that you give us the size of the group, desired times and dates, your name, phone and fax number.
